The power of the internet

Fashion shows used to be an event purely for the VIP's of the fashion industry but now with the use of the internet and live streaming this is a thing of the past. Ok you don't quite get the same atmosphere streaming online and there was a very annoying buzzing the whole way through the show-but who am I to complain? It is brilliant for those with an interest in fashion, that otherwise wouldn't be able to watch the shows but I can't help to think with all the live streaming that it is taking something special away from Fashion Shows?

I don't think that Live Streaming will ever take over from Fashion Shows but it certainly takes away from the exclusivity and prestige of receiving an invitation to a fashion show. As like everything there are pro's and con's and for the designers their work is being sent round the world instantly-it certainly benefits them. For those living abroad with no option to fly over for London Collections it also is a benefit. However I can't help but think that I would rather have been at the Hackett show this evening, catching a glimpse of the front row celebrities and rubbing shoulders with the uber stylish. However thanks to the internet I feel like I have still been a part of the excitement with Hackett this evening, and writing this with my cup of green tea and tucked up in bed, I can't complain.

It's raining men..

Monday the 7th of January 2013 kicks off the three day event 'London Collections: Men' also known as men's fashion week. London Collections will attract the biggest and best menswear designers of our time, along with journalists, bloggers and celebrities alike. London Collections started off last June, where there was definitely a buzz around it, however this time around people seem to be getting a lot more envolved and excited about the shows and exhibitions that follow.

London Collections has a lot of people describing London as 'the capital of menswear' and I have to agree, the talent and determination of designers in London is so refreshing right now. Before London Collections menswear designers had a dedicated day at London Fashion Week which led many to argue they weren't allocated enough time. London Collections has given other menswear designers the opportunity to showcase their collections and get their name heard.

Nicole Farhi. London Collections: Autumn/Winter 2012
Meadham Kirchhoff. London Collections: Autumn/Winter 2012

London Collections has really given menswear a new lease of life and everyone from the designers to journalists and the media have really embraced it. I will be covering some of the shows, in the forthcoming days, so don't forget to check out my blog this week. Also remember we are now in the 21st century and you can now watch most of the shows from the comfort of your own home.

Also follow me on twitter and Instagram for live updates on the days.

Fourth and Main #2

I recently stumbled across Art and Culture publication Fourth and Main and was so impressed with the quality of the writing, photography and overall presentation that I had to share it with you. After researching a little bit into Fourth & Main, I found out that not only is it a Art and Culture publication but also a clothing line, with a store in London. If the clothing line is anything to go by the publication, then quality, attention to detail and presentation will be amongst some of it's strengths.

Throughout the publication there are beautiful illustrations by the talented Micah Lideberg. I hadn't come across his work before, but after taking a look he is incredibly talented and each of his designs is well thought out and breath taking. If you also enjoy his work then you can check his website out here.

Photography by Elliot Lee HazelThe photography and styling in Fourth & Main is so versatile but all of the images are eye-catching and beautiful in their own way. The above image is actually one of my favourite, the girly colour palette and great use of natural light works so well.

If you like the look of Fourth & Main then check out their website and twitter.

My item of choice.. UO Interview

As you may or may not know I have recently moved to London to pursue my career in the fashion industry, whether it be fashion PR or model booking I am still undecided. However while I am deciding and I am applying for jobs like crazy I am working in retail to make ends meet. I was walking through Oxford Street last week and I saw there was a new Urban Outfitters opening on Marble Arch. I have been a huge fan of Urban Outfitters for year and will always remember my trip to New York in 2008 as the time when I fell in love with UO. As you will know if you have been to NYC there is an UO store every couple of blocks, so that along with the beautiful clothes it really is hard not to.

Anyway so you are probably wondering where this is going? Well I was lucky enough to get a group interview for Urban Outfitters, Marble Arch. In the email the only thing we had to do was bring along one item that is important to us. I immediately started looking round my room thinking-what shall I bring? It was then that I saw my Nikon film camera which was handed down from my Uncle and I knew I would have to bring this.

When I was around 17 I started to become interested in photography and started Alevels at The Henley College, one of them being photography. The most I studied photography the more my love progressed and I ended up graduating this year with First Class Honours in Fashion with Photography. So when I look at this Nikon film camera given to me by my Uncle Adam years ago it shows how much it means to me.

It was a great exercise and one by one we would stand up, introduce ourselves and tell the story of our item. It was a great ice-breaker and everyone had some great items that you can tell meant a lot to each of them. What item would you bring?

A Bloggers New Years Resolution

1. Find more time to blog
As a blogger with a full time job it can be hard to find the time to write a blog post. One new years resolutions is going to be to try and blog 7 times a week.

2. Don't be lazy when it comes to outfits
I have never been a huge lover of ironing (come on who is?) and if it can be helped I will not iron my clothes. However we all have that one crumpled shirt in the bottom of our drawer that we don't choose simply because it needs to be ironed. This will change in 2013 and I will try to dig out those crinkled shirts and iron them with pride.

3. Wear less black
I love black clothes-(who doesn't?) but my new years resolutions is to invest in more clothing that isn't black. This year I want to try and find more colours that suit me. I love maroon and burgundy but apart from these colours I rarely invest in colour. I might indulge in a nice fluro envelope clutch or a cambridge satchel to brighten up my outfits.

4. Get my dream job
After graduating in 2012 with a First Class Honours degree in fashion photography I have applied for as many jobs as you could imagine. I have many aspirations but I know for sure fashion is the place for me, whether it be model booking, PR, marketing... The world is my oyster- but for 2013 my aim is to apply for one job each day until I have found my perfect jobs. I have lots of interviews coming in-my main problem is the amount of people applying. Wish me luck!!

5. Save for my mulberry
I have lusted over Mulberry bags for as long as I can remember but never seem to have enough income to buy one. However 2013 is the year where this will change-not only will I blag my dream job but I will save enough money to buy myself a Mulberry. Last year for my birthday my aunty set me off on my quest for a Mulberry bag and bought me a gift voucher for Mulberry. I remember he saying to me 'It only lasts a year so that's a good incentive to make you save'. So the clock is ticking-I have until June 2012 to finally get my Mulberry.

Bargain Boots

Left: Studded black boots, £10 (Primark)                            Right: Burgundy Flatforms, £5 (Primark)

I have needed a new pair of boots/shoes for every day use for so long now and what better time to have a look than in the sales? I was as shocked as you probably are that both of the above are from Primark. I love the black leather style boots with silver spikes, they will look great with tights and a LBD and for only £10 you can't go wrong. I had been expecting to pay a lot more than £10 for some boots so when I saw these burgundy flatforms for only £5 I didn't think twice-and for once they had my size in both! What do you think?
