PAUSE Pop Up Launch Party

Menswear magazine PAUSE have progressed so much in the last year that they decided to launch their first ever pop up shop. Funded by the Mayor of London, Camden Council and Camden Town United, Camden Collection supports up-and-coming creative business and backed the pop up shop. I went along on Tuesday evening for the launch party and what a success it was. With great music, a creative crowd from bloggers and PR's to press and designers. I even bumped in Vince Kidd who I interviewed for the 2nd Issue of PAUSE, as he turned round and asked 'Where do I know you from?'. Stocking brands such as Hubert & Calvin, Watch Warehouse, Mr Gugu and TWOANGLE & Serge DeNimes, the pop up shop has a great range of diverse menswear. What a great location for a pop up shop too, situated at 69 High Street, Camden. You have until the 28th of July to pop down, but if I was you i'd get down sooner rather than later!

PAUSE Magazine, Issue 04

I have been so busy with my new job that I forgot to tell you how excited about the 4th Issue of PAUSE Magazine. I have been writing for PAUSE since the early days and I must say I was pleasantly surprised at how far the magazine has come in such a short space of time. Everything from the paper quality to the features were stepped up for this Issue and it is down to the hard work of the whole team. Founder and editor-in-chief, Johnson Gold is so down to earth and an absolute pleasure to work with.

Don't think that the excitement stops there, oh no; PAUSE birthday Issue will be out in September and it is going to be bigger and better than ever! It is so exciting to be involved with such a great publication and although I don't have as much time to spend as before I am so proud of the whole team. I'm running away with myself here,  but Issue 04 features my cover interview with Made in Chelsea star Oliver Proudlock about the start up of his brand Serge DeNimes.

PAUSE magazine is now being sold at a great price of £3.50, available at top newsagents, bookstores and independent stores in London. Also available worldwide you can purchase PAUSE in NYC, Paris, Tokyo, Australia, Berlin , Hong Kong, Dubai and many more. For full stockists visit here and order your copy online now at shop.pausemag.co.uk.

LCM: Christopher Shannon S/S 2014

Christopher Shannon was by far my favourite show of Spring/Summer 2014 at London Collections: Men. The show opened with outfits of grey and white but neon was obvious from the start with neon glitter in the models slicked back hair. The use of vibrancy and decision to use neon in a playful way worked well and didn't look overdone. It was a festival of bright colours and certainly showed the Spring/Summer season with a positive vibe. Model Chuck Junior showed us PVC at it's best in a striking grey outfit. Psychedelic animal prints also made an appearance, showing sports luxe in a different light. The finale itself was mesmerising with bright colours colours transcending the typical catwalk and showing us a glimpse of glittery heaven.

LCM: Baartmans & Siegel S/S 14

One thing I love is a design duo, and even better is a design duo that use their cultures and experiences to compliment each other. With Baartmans & Siegel's Dutch/British background and their love of fashion they bonded whilst working at Viktor & Rolf.  I loved their Autumn/Winter 2013 collection that was set in a cinema in Covent Garden so I was intrigued as what they would have to offer for Spring/Summer 2013. The South Pacific Aviation collection was mainly navy and cream with minimal structures and silhouettes. The setting was what made the presentation for me with a room filled with tropical shrubbery and a relaxed atmosphere really made for a summer vibe. I also have to mention I got to finally see the B&S mascot, Noodle the pet dachshund.

LCM: Nick Tensis S/S 14

As always as fashion weeks I will not learn. The fashion editor advised once again to wear comfortable shoes but I simply refused so knowing I could chill out at the Nick Tensis presentation in a beautiful hotel was a relief for both me and my poor feet. I was joined by Camilla from Who's Jack and it was so lovely to relax, enjoy a couple of Martini's and appreciate a well tailored suit. Nick Tensis added a modern edge to Savile Row with cropped trousers and pastel shades of blue and lemon that were popular. Menswear ambassador, Dermot O'Leary got involved on the action and was seen taking a closer inspection at the collection. Brilliant presentation and brilliant Spring/Summer 2014 collection for Nick Tensis.

London Collections: Men YMC SS14

After taking Day 1 off for my birthday, YMC on the morning of Day 2 kicked off London Collections:Men for me this season. After a last minute ticket allocation I managed to grab myself a seat and get comfortable. The first thing I noticed was the new layout of the show space at The Old Sorting Office and I thought it was great. The vibe of the show was very chilled and this was echoed with the laid back, ready-to-wear collection from YMC, similar to that of Topman or Urban Outfitters. Overall the collection was very on trend and wearable but it didn't push boundaries as much as I had hoped. A striped suit with shorts was a strong look and can see this growing ever popular over the next year. Cowboy hats were also frequent as well as straw hats adding that summer vibe. Colour ways were mainly vibrant green and aqua blue within the browns and monochrome shades. YMC played it safe this season but in monetary terms this will most likely pay off in the long run.

Interview with Sons of Heroes

It's always great to see your name in print, and even better when it's a magazine that you have supported since the beginning. I started writing for menswear magazine, PAUSE in April 2012 and less than a year later I am Features Editor and have interviewed Vince Kidd, Mikill Pane and many fashion brands including Sons of Heroes. The team is close knit and everyone works really hard and each issue is growing stronger and stronger. I am always on the lookout for up-and-coming menswear brands to interview and feature both online and for the print magazine. For more information please contact me on: katie@pausemag.co.uk

Order your copy of PAUSE here and see my name in print!

Emerging Trend: Meggings

Although I regularly write for menswear magazine, Pause, most of the time my blog posts are photography related or clothes that I would like to wear myself. However whilst at London Collections: Men, I really enjoyed writing about menswear even more and considered starting a separate menswear blog. Then I thought why not start writing a bit more about menswear on my current blog-who know's it might even attract some more male followers.

Anyway enough about me-this post is about the emerging trend: Meggings (Male leggings)!I know it is hard to think of a time where women's leggings weren't in fashion but trust me there was a time. I remember when leggings started filling our shops and people weren't too sure, but soon enough the streets and catwalks embraced leggings and they have been a wardrobe staple ever since. Meggings, on the other hand are trying to find a way into the male wardrobe, I think the best way to describe them is Marmite. I don't ever think they are going to be as popular as leggings are with women, as quite frankly they are unflattering and very feminine.

The Meggins on the left hand side look very similar to black skinny jeans, I'm just guessing they are a whole lot more comfortable. The pair on the right are a lot more out there and I'm sure will find themselves on the streets of Shoreditch and Dalston in the coming weeks. Thinking back to J.W Anderon's A/W 13 show at London Collections:Men where he had both dresses and very short shorts on display it all of a sudden makes Meggings seem very manly indeed. If you are male, would you wear them? And for the females out there-would you date someone wearing Meggings?

London Collections: Christopher Shannon A/W 13

"Obsessive, Compulsive, Re-order"-Autumn/Winter 2013

The Christopher Shannon show was the first on my list at London Collections:Men so I was excited to get back in the swing of things and see some new collections. The show was running slightly late, but I bumped into the editor of a menswear magazine I contribute towards, Pause so it worked out quite well. Unfortunately I only had standing tickets so my view wasn't great but I could still appreciate the collection just as well.  Did I mention I spotted the amazing David Gandy on the front row although he did spend the show talking and on his phone (uhumm!).

Christopher Shannon is a menswear graduate from Central Saint Martins, who first received Newgen sponsorship in 2010. The show opened with my favourite style, a black and white monochrome look. There was an abundance of wool, lots of navy and a splash of red but overall Christopher Shannon displayed his sense of invention whilst playing it safe for his Autumn/Winter 2013 collection. The collection entitled 'Obsessive, Compulsive, Re-order' was inspired by the fabrics found in hoarders homes. One thing that did make Christopher Shannon stand out was the fact that he not only used men in his catwalk collection but also a selection of women. I'm not sure how they felt about being selected for a menswear catwalk show but it certainly got people talking about it.

PAUSE Magazine: Issue 2

I have been writing with PAUSE for a few months now and I have now interviewed both of their cover stars: Mikill Pane (Issue 1) and Vince Kidd (Issue 2). PAUSE is a menswear magazine, documenting everything from styling tips to up-and-coming designers. A lot of hard work goes into the online blog and the printed magazine and I am so proud to be a part of it! You can order your FREE issue here: http://pausemag.co.uk/?p=7126

Everything from the graphics to the photography has really improved this issue, it is definitely a magazine to watch out for. It would be great to get some feedback on my interview with Vince Kidd for any of you who do order a copy!

Pausemag.co.uk

Recently I have been writing for pausemag.co.uk to build some online presence for my fashion writing. The website is menswear, which I have become more interested in recently. The articles are normally around 200 words which is easy to uphold with Uni work etc. Here is my latest article on pause, if you are male or just like menswear take a look.

I was interested about the brand Underground, best known for their popular Creeper style shoes.
